The higher the price of gas, the more it pays for them to keep drilling. Source: used to work for an oil company but also it's just economics. At least in the Gulf of Mexico. They don't bother to drill when the price drops too low. How so many, many, many people I know were laid off/pushed out of the business... It's a boom/bust industry. If you want your grandchildren to have a world, you want gas to be too cheap to be worth what it costs to keep taking it out of the ground.
