While Waiting for the Singularity to Save You from This Hellscape

How time flies! In the run-up to the twentieth anniversary of the first appearance of The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect, Atun Shei has arrived to make a short (45 minute) report on this short cult novel.

Roger Williams’ h̶e̶a̶r̶t̶-̶w̶a̶r̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶a̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶r̶i̶u̶m̶p̶h̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶h̶u̶m̶a̶n̶ ̶s̶p̶i̶r̶i̶t̶ Asimov-meets-de Sade take on the rapture of the nerds is not for the faint of heart.

“If you could have anything, would you still want it?” is the blurb from the Apple e-book cover, and maybe that sums up the book as well as any one-liner can. But if you’re looking for deeper insights, this movie is a great start.

There are a couple of ads at the beginning to pay the filmmaker’s bills, so sorry about that. Once we do get uploaded to Eternal Heck and Consternation, I guess we won’t have ads anymore, but we’ll have bigger worries. As you will soon learn…

A word of warning

One of the reasons this book has lived so long as an indie title is because it has s̶omething to horrify, upset, and/or gross out everybody. Singularity types find a lot to think about and debate in this book.

You know how philosophers like to take things to ridiculous extremes for the sake of argument? In the case of de Sade, extreme enough to get him locked up?

Do not expect to meet nice people doing nice things in this book. If you’re a fan of transgressive fiction — American Psycho or the George Miles cycle or maybe the divine Marquis himself — you’ll be fine.

If not, you might have questions. The YouTube gives you a good idea of what to expect without getting zombie body horror levels of explicit. The book itself is very explicit, so we are not offended if everybody doesn’t read it.

You have been warned!

Where to find paperback copies

Collector’s paperback copies may be purchased at Lulu and Amazon.

That Amazon link goes to the US store. The paperback can be purchased from some other Amazon marketplaces. To find out if it’s in your store, you need to search your Amazon marketplace with the ISBN-13 978–1411602199.

I know that trick works for the UK and German stores since I just tried it. Hopefully, it’ll work for your store.

You don’t have to tell me that a lot of the collectors are from outside the US. I know because I used to ship all the signed copies myself.

It will be some time before I’ll be able to do that again, so bear with us if you’re in a region where you can’t easily purchase a paper copy.

General ‘Prime Intellect’ Updates

Currently, we are all out of signed copies and won’t be doing that again until the pandemic has simmered down.

No news yet on the TV option. The pandemic slowed down the putting-together-of-deals, but the option was renewed, so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

Note: My husband wrote the book, and I own the publishing company, so if you buy an ebook or a paperback copy, we make a couple bucks. I think you’re smart enough to figure that out, but just in case it needed saying… consider it said!

Here’s the previous story inspired by the portion of the filming that took place at the house:

I write pulp under pen names & prefer to eschew appearing on film. I can’t tell you how to write a cult novel, but I can tell you how to write pulpy books for money on Amazon:

Here’s how to join Medium through my link so you can read all my paywalled content & everybody else’s for one low, low fee.
